Comprehensive Dental Exams
Giving Wilmington a Healthy Start
The first time you come in for a visit with Dr. Rosen, you’ll notice something a little different – we take lots of time with you, getting to know you and all of your needs. This careful and unhurried care continues every time you come to see us and is especially important during your regular exams.
The other thing you will notice is our advanced technology. Every comprehensive exam is performed using digital x-rays and intraoral cameras. Digital x-rays expose our patients and our staff to lower doses of radiation while allowing us to see crisp images that can be saved to your computerized records. Intraoral cameras are a favorite with both children and adults because they let you see the inside of your mouth, hugely magnified and in color, in real time. It is one of our most effective tools both for diagnosing problems and for teaching about dental hygiene and care.
We also have panoramic x-ray equipment to allow us to get an overview of your entire mouth including your teeth, jawbones, sinuses, and other parts of your head and neck.
As part of our comprehensive exam, we will also do an oral cancer screening. Approximately 37,000 Americans will be diagnosed with some type of oral or pharyngeal cancer this year. It really is distressing because the death rate for oral cancer is higher than many other common cancers. This is why we take oral cancer screening so seriously. We want our patients to stay healthy for life, and we perform oral cancer screenings at every recare visit.
During this screening we will look for any sign of abnormality – swelling, small sores, lesions, and discoloration. This examination is very important – the sooner oral cancer is found and treated, the more likely the chances for recovery are. If you smoke or drink alcohol with regularity, you are even more susceptible to oral cancers so please, be sure to keep your regularly scheduled exams.
All of your records will be kept in digital format and every operatory has a computer in it. This allows us to quickly and easily access your information for comparisons and updates.
“I first learned of Dr. Rosen a few years ago through recommendations from several professional colleagues and co-workers. I was involved in a traumatic accident that necessitated a timely dental evaluation, but I didn’t have a dentist. Unfortunately, several horrific experiences as a child and young adult had kept me dissatisfied with my smile and out of the dentist’s chair for many, many years!
Although I never had a cavity and my teeth were very healthy, I was experiencing some minor pain and damage from the accident that needed attention, so I made an appointment with Dr. Rosen. I have to say that my experience could not have been more pleasant. The damage from the accident was repaired, my old crown was replaced, and I couldn’t be happier with my smile!
I would highly recommend Dr. Rosen and his wonderful staff for both routine and cosmetic dental care. They’re professional, friendly, and excellent at what they do!” – Tom
