Dr. Garrett Goodling
One of the most exciting aspects of being a dentist is working with innovative technologies to transform smiles and change lives with treatments like smile makeovers and full mouth reconstructions.
Wilmington, Delaware, cosmetic dentist Dr. Garrett Goodling and our team would like you to meet Shirley, one of our many beloved patients who came to us after years of teeth clenching and grinding, resulting in severely damaged teeth, especially on the upper (maxillary) arch. After receiving treatments at countless other dental practices that just didn’t hit the mark, she came to us to have her teeth and bite properly aligned. This in turn would alleviate those painful TMJ Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) symptoms.
Importance of an Aligned Bite and Fixing Damaged Teeth
When your bite and teeth are in optimal alignment, you will open and close your mouth comfortably and without pain. A properly aligned bite is vital to reducing and even eliminating the numerous TMJ symptoms that may affect the following areas of your body:
- Head
- Face
- Jaw
- Ears
- Neck
- Upper and middle back (sometimes even the lumbosacral area of the back is affected by TMJ)
- Arms and fingers
Many highly effective TMJ treatments are noninvasive and painless. Dental crowns are just one such option and have been successful for many patients.
Shirley’s Treatment
According to Dr. Goodling and his team, digital smile planning technology was used to design a new smile and fabricate custom-designed dental crowns for her upper teeth. Crowns are considered both cosmetic and restorative dentistry because they restore the strength of your tooth while improving the aesthetics of the damaged tooth.
Dental crowns and porcelain veneers are two of the most common procedures performed regularly to fix people’s smiles, eliminate minor and major flaws, and restore their bites to their optimal position.
Same-Day Dental Crowns with Dr. Goodling
Many dental practices require two visits to place a crown: the first appointment takes approximately 90 minutes, and the second appointment, in which the final crown is placed, takes 30-40 minutes. At our practice, we place durable, stable, and long-lasting same-day crowns.
A dental crown, often called a “cap,” fits atop the root of your tooth. Crowns are indicated when there’s simply too much damage for a dental filling. They are ideal for strengthening a tooth and making it pretty again without the need for repeated visits.
If you’re considering a crown or feel you may need a smile makeover with other procedures in addition to crowns, we encourage you not to wait another day to schedule your comprehensive evaluation with Dr. Goodling and his talented team.
What to Expect
First, we will take x-rays of your teeth and work on your crown in our in-office lab. Next, we’ll thoroughly clean your tooth. In some cases, Dr. Goodling will discover decay within your tooth’s root, so he will likely perform a root canal procedure before placing your crown. Today’s root canals are nothing like those of the past. We perform hundreds of root canals each year, and you’ll be back to your normal life in no time at all with our skillful dentist and cutting-edge technology.
After cleaning the treated tooth, we will file down the damaged area and then use an imaging wand to develop a digital image of your tooth to ensure a proper fit. Once we have completed the crown, we will place it on your tooth’s roots and ensure it feels like your natural tooth.
Happy Patient, Happy Dentist
Our latest success story, Shirley, is thrilled with the aesthetics of her new smile and has received many compliments from friends and family. Dr. Goodling and his amazing team said, “She is a fantastic patient to work with and had nothing but positive things to say about her experience from start to finish.”
We could not feel more privileged to meet wonderful patients like Shirley and work with them to transform their dull smiles into ones that light up a room. Sometimes, you only need one visit to transform a lackluster smile into one that is Hollywood-worthy. Other patients may require a few visits to achieve all the smile goals discussed at your initial appointment.
